Reports To: Site Supervisor / Foreman
Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Equipment Operator to operate heavy machinery in support of underground utility installation projects, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems. The ideal candidate will have experience operating excavation equipment and working on construction job sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, loaders, and skid steers to dig trenches, move materials, and support pipe installation
- Perform daily pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment
- Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site plans and specifications
- Coordinate with pipe crews, laborers, and supervisors to maintain smooth workflow
- Monitor trench depth and slope to meet project requirements
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and report any mechanical issues promptly
- Adhere to all safety regulations, including OSHA standards and company policies
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required
- Strong understanding of construction and utility site safety practices
- Ability to read site plans or follow verbal instructions from site foreman
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in heavy equipment operation or OSHA safety training
- Experience working with underground utilities and pipe crews
- Familiarity with GPS and laser equipment for trench depth control
Work Environment:
- Outdoor job sites with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather
- Must be able to sit, stand, and operate machinery for extended periods
